This effect was observed as far back as the mid-1800s, when it was found that trains passing in opposite directions tipped precariously toward one another. ![]() The reason is the same: The high velocity of the air between the car and the truck creates a region of lower pressure between the vehicles, and they are pushed together by greater pressure on the outside ( (Figure)). Bernoullis principle is a description of how gases and liquids (fluids) behave. Similarly, when a car passes a truck on the highway, the two vehicles seem to pull toward each other. Bernoullis principle states that for a fluid (gas or liquid) of very low viscosity and a poor conductor of heat, an increase in the speed of the fluid occurs. This pressure difference results in a net force, pushing the curtain inward. The reason is that the high-velocity stream of water and air creates a region of lower pressure inside the shower, whereas the pressure on the other side remains at the standard atmospheric pressure. The principle is named after Daniel Bernoulli who published it in his book Hydrodynamica in 1738. Bernoulli, Swiss physicists, mathem aticians, 1700. In fluid dynamics, Bernoulli’s principle states that an increase in the speed of a fluid occurs simultaneously with a decrease in pressure or a decrease in the fluid’s potential energy. For instance, shower curtains have a disagreeable habit of bulging into the shower stall when the shower is on. Bernoullis principle is an impor tant theory in fluid me chanics, involv es a lot of knowledg e of fluid mecha nics, and is Daniel Bernoulli (d. Bernoulli’s theorem implies, therefore, that if the fluid flows horizontally so that no change in gravitational potential energy occurs, then a decrease in fluid pressure is. He investigated not only mathematics but also such fields as medicine, biology, physiology, mechanics, physics, astronomy, and oceanography. Bernoulli’s theorem is the principle of energy conservation for ideal fluids in steady, or streamline, flow and is the basis for many engineering applications. ![]() There are many common examples of pressure dropping in rapidly moving fluids. 29, Old Style, 1700, Groningen, Neth.died March 17, 1782, Basel, Switz.), the most distinguished of the second generation of the Bernoulli family of Swiss mathematicians. As a result, the pressure drops in a rapidly moving fluid whether or not the fluid is confined to a tube. Bernoullis principle and its corresponding equation are important tools in fluid dynamics. The net work done increases the fluid’s kinetic energy.
